Apostle of Hustle

Posted on June 29, 2007

I just posted a couple picutres of tonight’s concert. I was soooooo short. And the Montreal Jazz Festival crowd didn’t seem to appreciate his wonderful theateresque performance, but I did. I’m definitly going to have to try and catch him in another setting and totally get intoxicated by his wonderful wonderful music. Follow this link

Band of the Week

Posted on June 27, 2007

So it’s not really a band, but more like this one musical marvel of a man; Kevin Drew. Formerly lead singer and founding member of the notorious Canadian musical collective Broken Social Scene, Drew is now getting ready to release a first solo album. According to Arts & Crafts (record label), Spirit if… is meant to hit the stands on September 19th, 2007. I can’t hardly wait. After having downloaded the first song of this album (legally of course) I have to admit that I’ve listened to it over 20 times in the past 48 hours.
According to Wikipedia, this beauty is paired up with the equally beautiful and talented Leslie Feist (sorry Jon). Also, his MySpace page just went up today.
Broken Social Scene have recently decided to take a hiatus. I was really saddened by this, however, if it means more wonderful stuff springing from solo acts like this one, Aposlte of Hustle’s last album, or even Feist’s new album, I’m willing to mend the wound and deal with the loss.
I’m so excited about this album, there’s no way I’ll be able to wait off until September.

Photoshoot with Alain Astruc

Posted on June 22, 2007

So this guy, Alain, he’s a friend of mine who just happens to be a fresh and talented professional photographer straight out of France. I had been taking alot of picture of The Luyas and posting them on MySpace. So this guy just comes along and posts this AMAZING picture of them right after me. I was astonished. So I wrote to him to compliment him on his pictures (because, as I said, this guy is super-talented). We started messaging and then became friends. When he told me he was looking for models, I volunteered. I thought it might be fun. Well that’s what I did yesterday. It was a damn good time, that’s what it was. Plus, the pictures are absolutely fantastic. I’ve never felt as beautiful as I do on these pictures. It amazes and dazzles me. Here’s a couple pictures to give you a peak, and then the link to my Facebook gallery to see more. You will also find below the link to his website. Enjoy!

Website of the day

Posted on June 19, 2007

I’ve been a big fan of this website for quite some time now. The National Geographic… I don’t need to explain who they are. The name has already been made. They have this portion of their website that is dedicated to “The picture of the day”. I love this. I’ve been looking at them every day for about a year now. And as an added bonus, they always add a little bit of text to explain what it is you’re looking at and you get to learn a bit more about our wonderful world every day. Check it out lads!

Next week on the CBC

Posted on June 15, 2007

Next week on the CBC Radio One, you will be able to hear yours truly as I was interviewed on the street about linguistic misunderstandings between French speakers from different dialectic areas. I was on one of my daily bank missions for work when I was acosted by these people with a CBC foam mic. I was intrigued. I love the CBC. It think it’s great really, and I’m such a huge fan of so much of the stuff they do. So I didn’t hesitate when they asked me a couple questions. They were asking people about how some Quebequers can be misunderstood when they go to France and the other way around and they asked me to elaborate on these linguistic differences and stuff. When I said I was from N.B. and how I was misunderstood around here quite a bit they got all excited and asked me to monologue. They probably chopped a whole bunch of stuff in editing, but it was fun. So this will be airing next week (I think) on a show called C’est La Vie on CBC Radio One. This show airs on Tuesdays at 11:30 AM and again on Sundays at 7:30 PM. Follow this link for more info. http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/program/index.jsp?program=C%27est+la+Vie&network=CBC+Radio+One&startDate=2007/06/12&startTime=11:30 Personally, I can’t wait to hear what I sound like.

Sarah’s band of the week

Posted on June 11, 2007

In the spirit of discoveries, I’m gonna start posting musical suggestions or my own discoveries every week. This week, the lucky winners are The Cardigans. The Cardigans are a Swedish band from the town Jönköping. Not exactly a discovery since I can remember listening to them when I was like 13, but this week, I decided to listen to them again just for the heck of it. Turns out they’re still around and still making music. And the music they’re still making…it’s pretty good. I really like their kick and semi-dark feel. The lyrics are impressive and the lady singer has a lovely voice. What I was listening to though, was their third album, First Band On The Moon, which is just such a great album. 10 years later I still love it. Their new album is pretty great too. They have matured well, avoided and surpassed the one-hit-wonder rut, which could’ve easily hit them after their big hit in the 90s, Lovefool (from the soundtrack of Romeo & Juliet). Thanks to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cardigans), I just discovered that they also have albums that preceded my “coup-de-coeur” (First Band on the Moon), which I’m certainly going to check out.
