Sarah’s band of the week

Posted on June 11, 2007

In the spirit of discoveries, I’m gonna start posting musical suggestions or my own discoveries every week. This week, the lucky winners are The Cardigans. The Cardigans are a Swedish band from the town Jönköping. Not exactly a discovery since I can remember listening to them when I was like 13, but this week, I decided to listen to them again just for the heck of it. Turns out they’re still around and still making music. And the music they’re still making…it’s pretty good. I really like their kick and semi-dark feel. The lyrics are impressive and the lady singer has a lovely voice. What I was listening to though, was their third album, First Band On The Moon, which is just such a great album. 10 years later I still love it. Their new album is pretty great too. They have matured well, avoided and surpassed the one-hit-wonder rut, which could’ve easily hit them after their big hit in the 90s, Lovefool (from the soundtrack of Romeo & Juliet). Thanks to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cardigans), I just discovered that they also have albums that preceded my “coup-de-coeur” (First Band on the Moon), which I’m certainly going to check out.
